FAQ
Where do you buy your stones?
We use different suppliers within and outside Europe, after which the stones are handpicked by myself.
Why do I pay for a number of stones and not per kilo?
I sort all the stones myself so that you only receive the most beautiful ones.
At other sellers who offer them per kilo, you also pay for the less beautiful stones and the broken stones.
Is there a difference in the sets with tiles and the random sets?
No, in terms of number and quality these are the same, the difference is in the time and effort we take to take and upload photos of the individual sets.
Why are the stones measured on the long side?
I measure the stones manually on the longest side. I do this so that you know how big the surface is on which you can draw/paint/dot.
Stones that you buy at a hardware store, for example, are measured differently, they use a sieve measure. This means that the stones are passed through a large sieve with a certain size of squares. An example is the screen size 30-80, if you order these stones from a hardware store, it may be that there are stones under 30 mm and above 80 mm.
Do I have to wash the stones before use?
We advise you to rinse the stones with water and then let them dry well. No soap or detergents are needed. When rinsing, you can also see the beautiful colors that can differ per stone and type of stone.
Is it necessary to provide the stones with a layer of gesso or primer?
That depends on the stone, what you want to make and also your own personal preference. On a dark stone I like to use a layer of white gesso, this ensures better adhesion and the (acrylic) paint covers better afterwards. On a light stone, I usually use a layer of transparent gesso if I want to keep the color of the stone as a background.
What is the best way to paint the stones?
This also depends on what you want to make and your own personal preference. I use acrylic paint and acrylic paint markers. My favorite brands are Amsterdam Talens, Daler Rowney, Vallejo, Posca and Molotow.
What is the best way to dot the stones?
To dot on a stone you can use dotting tools or a brush and paint. Dotting tools can be found in the webshop, these are the tools I prefer to use myself. The structure of your paint is very important. If you want to buy ready-made dotting paint, I recommend using a hobby paint. This is often more liquid than regular acrylic paint and therefore you no longer need to mix it with a medium and/or water. I sell this paint that is also ideal for painting for 3.50 € per strip with 6 colors in handy resealable pots. To order, feel free to send me a message if they are not yet in the webshop.
